Choosing Dentistry: Our Story

Many dental students, including myself, may have chosen dentistry due to lower NEET UG scores, but other factors are involved. Some have family in the field, while I developed a personal interest in dentistry after exploring its subjects, unlike fields like BAMS or BHMS. Though some initially took it for the sake of admission, their passion for dentistry grew over time. However, not everyone loves this field, and other career paths exist to explore.

So, first things first, why do I and other dental students join dentistry? Your answer might be as simple as, "You didn't score well in NEET UG." It's a valid point, but there are other factors as well.

Some of my college mates have parents or relatives already in dentistry with well-established careers or, we could say, businesses.

In my case, with no career settlement or family background, I have to build my path independently. However, I chose dentistry because, from the start, I had a bit of interest in it. I just reviewed a few subjects, and I liked them, whereas I didn't find interest in BAMS, BHMS, or BPT, as I didn't like their concepts or certain subjects.

Some of my friends took admission because they had to, but over time, their love for dentistry grew.

However, not many of us love this field for various reasons, so there are many other fields one can explore.
